EDUCATOR
AAASP provides an educationally tested solution for interscholastic adapted sports. The model is available to any district(s) wishing to implement compliant programming. AAASP Georgia is a model for other States to consider. AAASP regularly provides Administrative Training for State High School sports associations and others.
AAASP believes that:
- Sports activity is significant to any child’s healthy physical and emotional development, and often, more so for those with physical disabilities.
- Every young person with a physical disability or visual impairment should have an opportunity to participate in appropriate interscholastic athletic programs.
- The standardization of sports rules, policies, and ethical guidelines is essential to the long–term success of interscholastic adapted athletics programs.
- Continuous, stable, and quality adapted sports programs are possible only with the aid of solid governance and leadership.
- Education and community leaders are increasingly aware that few opportunities exist in sport for youth with physical disabilities, and that there is national appeal to change that trend.
- Adapted sports programs provide an arena for physically disabled youth to excel, not just a chance to participate because they allow ongoing, sustained development of physical capabilities and skill throughout the school year.
